Pediatric Asthma Faculty Champions Initiative
Goal: Increase the number of pediatric health care providers who demonstrate knowledge of environmental asthma triggers and intervention strategies and deliver comprehensive asthma management counseling to their patients.
NEEF has a network of Pediatric Asthma Faculty Champions in each of ten US regions who:
- take a leadership role in integrating environmental management of pediatric asthma into medical and nursing schools in a sustainable fashion
- train their colleagues, teach courses, provide expertise and support in their institutions and surrounding communities
- serve models for integrating environmental management of asthma into health professional education
To date, the Faculty Champions have trained close to 6,000 health professionals using NEEF's environmental management of pediatric asthma training PowerPoint presentation. In a multi-year study, data indicated that pediatricians' knowledge and management of environmental asthma triggers improved after training. These results were presented at the 2011 Pediatric Academic Societies' Annual Conference.
If you are interested in finding out more about the Faculty Champions, or if you would like to arrange for an environmental mangement of pediatric asthma training in your region, please contact health@neefusa.org.
