NEEF Receives EPA's 2006 Children's Environmental Health Excellence Award

Ceha logoWashington, DC, April 21, 2006 - The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) is a recipient of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2006 Children’s Environmental Health Excellence Award for outstanding commitment to protecting children from environmental health risks.

Leyla Erk McCurdy, NEETF’s Senior Director for the Health & Environment Program accepted the award at a special ceremony held on April 20, 2006, in Washington, D.C. NEEF received the Excellence Award for its accomplishments in Integrating Environmental Health into Pediatric Health Care.

NEEF’s Health Care Provider Initiative is a long-term program that takes a strategic approach to incorporating environmentalAward Ceremony Photo health into health professionals' education and practice in order to improve health care and public health, with a special emphasis on protecting children and other populations disproportionately affected by environmental pollutants.

By convening experts, developing national agendas and forming strategic partnerships, NEEF creates tools and organizes trainings for health professionals, and facilitates the integration of environmental health into pediatric health care. NEEF’s tools for health professionals include Environmental Management of Pediatric Asthma: Guidelines for Health Care Providers, Pesticide Competency and Practice Skills Guidelines for Medical and Nursing Schools, and Pediatric Environmental History Screening Materials.
