These case studies point to the preventable human suffering that can be associated with delayed or missed diagnoses of pesticide poisoning. Given the presence of pesticides in our society, there is a strong argument for sensitizing all primary care providers to develop the proper diagnostic skills, including consultation when needed, to respond promptly to patients whose presentations may represent pesticide poisoning.

While it is anticipated that providers working with high-risk populations - such as in agricultural areas, emergency departments, and pediatrics - will be most sensitive to this proposition, these cases show the potential for such severe health consequences that all primary care providers are advised to be vigilant.
