Earth Gauge
The Earth Gauge™ program works to convey environmental information to the public through a trusted media source – TV meteorologists. Because there is a natural link between weather and the environment, broadcast meteorologists are uniquely poised to educate the public about key environmental issues in their communities.
In partnership with the American Meteorological Society (AMS), Earth Gauge™ is transforming the weathercast to an “envirocast” by:
- Institutionally changing the role of broadcast meteorologists to “station scientists” through workshops, training opportunities, and the AMS certification program;
- Providing a free, weekly e-newsletter to broadcast meteorologists across the U.S. containing environmental and climate information tied to the local 3-day forecast;
- Providing free, online continuing education materials to broadcast meteorologists to broaden their expertise in the environmental sciences.
