US Forest Service Education Grant for the Every Kid in a Park Initiative

The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), in partnership with the US Forest Service (USFS), is offering a total of $20,000 in mini-grants to be awarded to schools and other educational agencies or organizations that serve a significant number of tribal 4th graders to support their efforts in delivering placed-based environmental education or recreational activities on USFS land.   • Applications are only accepted through NEEF’s online system.  Follow these steps to apply:

    1. Log in or create an account in our online system. (This link will take you to the home screen). 

    2. To start your application, click Apply on the left hand column.  You will see a box to type in an Access Code on the right hand side of the screen.  Type Forest and press enter.  Grant titled "2016 Connecting Diverse Communities to US Forest Service through Every Kid in a Park Initiative" will appear.  Select it to begin your application. 

    3. Once you have completed the application, click Submit Form.  If you do not click Submit Form, you will not have applied.  You will be directed to a confirmation screen upon submitting. 

  • Average Award Amount: Award amounts will range from $1,000 - $5,000 and will vary based on the scope and cost of work proposed by each applicant, quality of the submissions and the review and selection process. Applications must be completed by the school or other educational agency in cooperation with a representative of the partnering USFS site. Funds will be awarded to the school or educational agency.

  • Allowable Expenses: Grants funds may be used to cover costs associated with delivering programs (i.e., curriculum/materials development, field trips, program supplies, transportation, etc.). Funds can also be used to fulfil Every Kid in a Park requirements.

  • Grantee Announcement: Grantees will be announced in early Fall 2016 once all grantees have been selected. NEEF will collaborate with USFS and others to promote the winners and their programs using a variety of communications tools and strategies.
