Nickelodeon: The HALO Effect

The HALO Effect

Nick’s HALO Effect series highlights extraordinary teens who strive to help make the world a better place. Each month a new teen and their charity will be featured, and in addition, the episode will feature a challenge for Nick fans and partners to participate in to help raise awareness for similar causes.

Meet 16 year-old Allie Boyer (Chico, CA), this month’s HALO Effect winner

April HALO Effect Champion: Allie Boyer

Inspired by the book KoKo’s Kittens, at six years old, Allie researched and found out that orangutans were critically endangered. On a family trip, she saw lots of people shopping at boutiques and had an idea about how to help. She began collecting donations of lightly used purses from friends and family to resell at “purse parties.” Purses for Primates has raised over $14,000 for orangutans and is directly responsible for sending 14 orangutans back into protected rainforests. Allie represented the USA with Purses for Primates at the SAGE (Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship) World Cup in South Korea this year, and she won second place in the “Best Social Enterprise” category.

What about you?

What are YOU doing to make the world a better place? Take the HALO effect challenge and help spread the word about the great work that Allie Boyer is doing to help protect orangutans.
