Foundation Partners

NEEF thrives on foundation partnerships, including general support and direct program support.  Because of generous unrestricted funding, NEEF was able to adopt a bold vision:  By 2022, 300 million Americans actively use environmental knowledge to ensure the well-being of the earth and its people.  Many NEEF program investments were launched by private foundations open to taking risks in starting new ventures.

For example, NEEF pioneered providing environmental content to broadcast meteorologists to make weather and environment connections for their viewers.  The George Gund and The Curtis & Edith Munson Foundations were early funders to build this innovative approach to environmental education.  Since then, The Kendeda Fund stepped in to allow us to greatly expand our network of meteorologists and journalists.  As a result of this support, today we reach up to 90 million households with practical environmental tips people can integrate into daily life.

We are very grateful for the ongoing generous and diverse support we receive through private philanthropy.

Please see below for a listing of foundation partners over the past five years.

As the nation’s only congressionally chartered environmental education organization, NEEF is committed to facilitating public-private partnerships to advance environmental education nationwide.  NEEF is required to match private dollars to federal dollars it receives as a recipient of a congressional appropriation through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
