Department of Defense Legacy Program

Department of Defense Legacy Resource Management Program

The Department of Defense (DoD) Legacy Resource Management Program is one of seven federal agencies collaborating with NEEF on National Public Lands Day (NPLD). NEEF administers DoD Legacy Awards to military installations to enable them to host NPLD events on Air National Guard, Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Navy facilities.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention support NEEF’s asthma work, which aims to integrate the environmental management of asthma into health care.

Department of Education

Department of Education

The US Department of Education partners with NEEF and others to engage Native American teachers and students in citizen science with a focus on environmental monitoring and promote STEM learning through the Hands on the Land network.

US Environmental Protection Agency

US Environmental Protection Agency

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) safeguards our air, water, and land to promote human health. In support of that goal, EPA's Office of Environmental Education aims to develop an environmentally conscious and responsible public. NEEF complements this work by providing grants, resources, and volunteer opportunities for environmental education. EPA also supports NEEF's National Public Lands Day efforts through remarks from officials as well as employee participation. The Office of Wetlands, Oceans, and Watersheds also provided early grant support for NEEF’s work with weathercasters and watershed education, and continues to support these efforts via contracts. In addition, EPA's Indoor Environments Division provided early support for NEEF's Pediatric Asthma Initiative which focused on integrating the environmental management of asthma into pediatric medical and nursing education and practice. Forest Service Department of Agriculture

US Forest Service

The US Forest Service has embraced NEEF’s work in several key programs. Forest Service granted funds to implement NEEF’s Rx for Outdoor Activity at Children’s Forests around the nation. NEEF also partners with Forest Service to engage youth in environmental education through Hands on the Land—a national network of field classrooms. The Agency’s National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council supported NEEF’s effort to connect Hispanic communities in Houston and Los Angeles to urban forests for recreation, education, and environmental stewardship purposes. Lastly, as one of seven federal agencies collaborating with NEEF on National Public Lands Day, Forest Service contributes financial support in addition to hosting NPLD events at many sites across the country.

BLM contributes financial support in addition to hosting events at many sites around the nation. NEEF has also partnered with BLM to engage youth in environmental education through Hands on the Land—a national network of field classrooms.
