National Public Lands Day: Prominent Sites

Prominent NPLD sites fall into three categories: Highlighted, Featured, and Signature. These are sites which receive additional resources from NEEF in the form of:

  • grants;
  • increased social media and national media attention; and 
  • blog posts, op-eds, and other marketing and communications support.

What NEEF provides to Highlighted Sites:

  • additional communications support from NEEF to help promote the site;
  • articles, blog posts, and pictures are shared on NEEF’s national website;
  • content is shared through NEEF’s social media channels;
  • "Highlighted Site" designation on the official NPLD site map; and
  • sites/event description included in the 2018 NPLD Impact Report.

Highlighted Sites should have a strong alignment with NEEF's programmatic areas:

  • health & wellness;
  • environmental education;
  • outdoor recreation; and/or
  • incorporate the 50th Anniversary of the National Trail System Act or the 50th Anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.

Selection Criteria:

  • site/event must be registered for National Public Lands Day;
  • events must engage diverse volunteers/participants from various sectors including youth, families, students, professionals, veterans, and seniors;
  • site manager must write at least one article for NEEF about the site/event; and
  • site manager must submit a post-event survey.
