Highlighted Site Sponsorship

NPLD 2021: Highlighted Site Sponsorship

With generous support from Toyota Motor North America, the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) is providing up to $1,000 in funding to support innovative events during this year’s National Public Lands Day celebration. A total of 25 NPLD events will be selected to receive funding through this competitive process. Applicants may submit a virtual or in-person NPLD event for consideration.

National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the nation's largest single-day volunteer event for public lands. Established in 1994 and held annually on the fourth Saturday in September, this celebration brings out thousands of volunteers to help restore and improve public lands around the country.

For NPLD 2021, we have opted to retain last year’s theme of "More Ways to Connect to Nature." While virtual events were a necessity for NPLD Site manager over the past year, they have also proven to be an invaluable tool for connecting a wider, more diverse range of people to iconic parks, national forests, marine estuaries, and other public lands sites. This year, our goal is to highlight that diversity—in public lands, people, and the ways in which we value and care for these spaces—by supporting in-person, virtual, and hybrid NPLD events.

Selected sites will be expected to provide NEEF with the following:

  • High-resolution photos of the event location.
  • High-resolution photos from the actual event, including action shots of volunteers.
  • Detailed event description that can be used to promote the event to a national audience.
  • Highlighted sites will be required complete the NPLD post event survey and questionnaires provided by NEEF.
  • Highlighted sites will be required to use the NEEF supplied logos and engage with NEEF through social media.

Event Criteria:

  • Event must take place on publicly accessible lands.
  • Event must place on National Public Lands Day (Saturday, September 25, 2021)
  • Event must engage at least 100 participants.
  • Events must be media accessible.

  • Open to non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations, state or federal government agencies, local governments, federally recognized tribes and local governments, and educational institutions.
  • Government agencies do not have to submit financial information.
  • If you are a nonprofit or a government agency using a fiscal agent, the following will need to be submitted if selected for funding:
    • Conflict of interest policy
    • A list of the Board of Directors
    • Annual organizational budget
    • Most recently completed Audit, or if an audit is not available, a Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss Statement, and for your most recently completed fiscal year. If you have a financial review available, please provide that as well.
  • Ineligible applicants include private for-profit firms and individuals.
  • Sponsorship funding may not be used to support political advocacy and/or fundraising activities.

All applications are due by 11:59 pm (EDT) Monday, July 12, 2021. It is anticipated that applicants will be notified whether they were selected in late July and funds will be awarded by the end of August.

If Selected for Funding
