Devil's Elbow bypass trail

Volunteers will construct a .5 mi. bypass trail so that hikers have a choice to go around the steep Devil's elbow trail section. We'll have fun, work hard and make a difference! No experience is necessary.
The crew will meet at the east end of the parking lot for the Johnston Ridge Observatory. From there it is a 1.4 mile hike to the project site along the relatively flat ridge. From its starting point the new trail project is approx. .5 miles so the total round trip hike is expected to be about 4 miles.

The work entails using loppers and handsaws to clear vegetation along the trail corridor and then digging the trail tread surface to clear it of rocks and roots.
