National Public Lands Day at Calf Creek Recreation Area

As part of the Escalante Canyons Art Festival, and in celebration of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument's (GSENM) 20th Anniversary, GSENM and our partnering organizations, Grand Staircase Escalante Partners and Glen Canyon Natural History Association, will sponsor the first Annual Lower Calf Creek Falls Hike in GSENM's Calf Creek Recreation Area on Saturday, September 24, 2016, as a National Public Lands Day Event.

The Lower Calf Creek Falls Hike will be a daylong, fee-free event open to the local and visiting public. Guided hikes will not be offered, but rather GSENM rangers, GSEP staff, and volunteers will host learning stations at the trail head and at key spots along the three-mile Calf Creek Falls trail to the spectacular 126-foot Lower Calf Creek Falls. Activities at the stations will emphasize how people can Respect & Protect cultural and natural resources. In addition to these activities, participants will be invited to volunteer to pick up litter and perform minor trail maintenance. Estimated participation for this event is 75-200 people.

*Calf Creek Recreation area can be reached by way of scenic Byway 12, 15 miles east of Escalante, Utah.
