National Public Lands Day at Nine Mile Canyon Hands on the Land Outdoor Classroom

Join the BLM Price Field Office and professional archaeologists and historians in a series of public outreach events located in our Hands on the Lands outdoor classroom, Nine Mile Canyon (NMC), Utah. The first event will focus on the stabilization of a historic cabin and associated feature, and the removal of invasive vegetation from the area.  Participants will assist in documenting historic resources, removing invasive vegetation and assist professionals in the 'chinking' of a historic cabin (please see attached link for more information about chinking). Volunteers will then enjoy a brown bag presentation by local author and historian, Ms. Norma Dalton accompanied by additional conversation by area professionals. The second event will introduce area youth to the scientific excavation of a pithouse feature located at the Cottonwood Village Complex. Volunteers will assist archaeologists in excavating, documenting and photographing associated activities. This event will be ongoing and available to volunteer groups on a rotating basis.
