Shoreline clean up - 10 am to 1 pm, meet at Bear Valley Trailhead parking lot

Join Point Reyes National Seashore and REI for National Public Lands Day and help restore Drakes Estero. Work crews are working to remove an estimated 500 tons of marine debris in the estero. Now is your chance to help and ensure the legacy of this restoration effort! On National Public Lands Day—Saturday, September 24, 2016—Point Reyes National Seashore will be joined by REI to help clean up the shoreline along Drakes Estero. From 10 am to 1 pm, volunteers will help comb the shore for any plastic, trash, or debris. Please wear sturdy shoes or rubber boots, long pants, and bring a water bottle. Snacks will be provided by REI, along with a raffle and other Centennial gifts for volunteers. Please meet at the Bear Valley trailhead located just past the visitor center at 10 am, where we will organize carpools and head out to the worksite. Volunteers will also receive a fee free coupon, good for one free entry on to any federal public lands that take an entry fee. Habitat Restoration – 9am to 1pm, meet at Drakes Estero Trailhead parking lot

Join the Point Reyes Habitat Restoration Team as they help restore the area around the Estero by pulling Scotch Broom. Please wear sturdy shoes, long pants, bring a water bottle, and a lunch. Please meet at the Drakes Estero Trail Head at 9am; from Highway 1 head west on Sir Frances Drake, follow the signs toward the Lighthouse, after passing the Peirce Point Road Junction look for the sign directing you to the Estero Trailhead. Volunteers must register before the event and are required to fill out a Volunteer Agreement Form. Children under 18 need the Volunteer Agreement form signed by a parent.

Palomarin/Bass Lake Trail Cleanup

Meet at the Palomarin Trailhead

The Palomarin Trailhead has quickly become one of the most popular trailheads in the park, often filling up on the weekends. To keep this trail beautiful join park staff in cleaning up litter along the trail. Groups will head out as far as Bass Lake performing litter abatement on the trail and around the lake itself. Please wear sturdy shoes, long pants, bring a water bottle, and a snack/lunch.

Volunteers must register before the event and are required to fill out a Volunteer Agreement Form. Children under 18 need the Volunteer Agreement form signed by a parent.

Native Plant Nursery Class/Workday

Help support the resource management program at Point Reyes National Seashore through this workday with the Native Plant Nursery workday. The workday will include a class about propagation via cuttings then going out into the field to practice those skills. This program is part of our recurring monthly Native Plant Nursery Program (https://www.volunteer.gov/results.cfm?ID=8794). Volunteers are welcome to join just on National Public Lands Day but are also encouraged to fill out an application if they are interested in joining more workdays.

Pierce Point Habitat Restoration

Meet at the Peirce Point Ranch

Join the Habitat Restoration Program at Point Reyes NS on Sunday, September 25 to remove invasive cape-ivy near Pierce Ranch in the Tule Elk Reserve. Cape-ivy (Delairea odorata), a vine from South Africa, can cause harm to native plants, nesting songbirds, and fish.

We will be working with hand tools in a drainage that has lots of prickly salmonberry and stinging nettles, so thicker long-sleeved layers are advised.  Tools, gloves, and training provided. Please wear sturdy layered clothes that can get dirty and bring a jacket/sweatshirt, snacks, at least 2 liters of water, and lunch.

Minimum age 12 (with parental supervision; with written parental permission, volunteers aged 15 and older may come on their own); maximum number of volunteers 20. Workday is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. with optional lunch on site afterwards.
