National Public Lands Day at Sage Hen Gulch

This project is part of a larger project with the Gunnison Climate Working Group, a public/private partnership, which strives to increase the resiliencey of riparian and wetland meadow ecosystems in light of climate change. These ecosystems provide brood-rearing habitat, neccessary for the survival of Gunnison sage-grouse, a threatened species. Volunteers with Wildland Restoration Volunteers and Western State Colorado University will build rock structures in stream channels to re-connect floodplains and to arrest erosion.

Methodologies are outlined in Zeedyk (2014).  Zeedyk, Bill, and Van Clothier. 2014. Let the Water Do the Work: Induced Meandering, an Evolving Method for Restoring. Chelsea Green Publishing.
