Yoga, Tours, & Volunteering, Oh My!

To compliment several Call to Action initiatives outlined for the NPS Centennial, First State National Historical Park and Old Swedes Church will invite the surrounding greater community to engage with the Old Swedes landscape in new ways. September 17, 2016 falls on the last day of “National Wellness Week,” and is a week before “National Public Lands Day”, giving us a unique opportunity to promote national parks as a place for healthy living, wellness, and to join together to steward our lands.

At 10:00am visitors are invited to participate in the following activities: yoga at the mediation circle, counting steps by walking laps around the cemetery, educational tours and programs, and learn about archaeological findings. From 11:30am-1:00pm visitors will be invited to take out their packed lunch for a picnic with staff, and engage in an informal conversation about the history of Old Swedes Church. After lunch, from 1:00pm-3:00pm all visitors will be encouraged to participate in a service project by painting, gardening, and cleaning gravestones depending on the weather.

All volunteer equipment will be provided by First State National Historical Park. Visitors and volunteers will need to bring the following items with them to participate in the activities: Lunch for picnicking, appropriate clothing for yoga/walking, closed toed shoes, water bottle, bug spray, and sunscreen.
