Wilson's Creek National Battlefield is looking for participants in our first National Public Lands Day event. Whether you're a member of a youth organization or a family or an individual looking to connect with the national park in your backyard, you can protect one of America's hallowed grounds.
This morning event will focus on trail clean-up, assisting with repair of landscaping damaged in spring and early summer severe weather and removal of garbage from creekside areas near trails and from areas of heavy visitor use like Bloody Hill. Wilsons Creek itself is an important tributary of the James River and an important riparian area in the suburban landscape outside of Springfield. Your work can help to protect the site of the second major battle of the Civil War and to improve visitor experiences as they walk among positions and lines of battle from the deadliest conflict in American history.
Begin your registration at: https://www.volunteer.gov/s/volunteer-opportunity/a09SJ00000FBAzVYAX/national-public-lands-day-at-wilsons-creek-national-battlefield. The park's volunteer coordinator will contact you with additional registration materials. Youth organizations will need to make sure that all participants under 18 have a form signed by a parent or guardian before the start of the event. Day-of and walk-up registrations will be accepted but please arrive 30 minutes before the start of the event.
Volunteers will need to meet at the Wilson's Creek Visitor Center patio no later than 9:00 am to choose work areas and projects that you'd like to participate in.
