Volunteers will park in the Iwajima Memorial parking lot.  At 9am volunteers will meet a base representative at the Base Pass House.  Volunteers will be escorted over to the work project site along the northern corner of Nuʻupia (ʻEkahi). Between 9am and 9:30am, volunteers will register and be given a general orientation of the Nuʻupia Fishpond Complex and volunteer efforts that have been taking place by Ola Nuʻupia over the past three years. Volunteers should wear confortable work clothes and covered footwear.  Bring a pair of work gloves if you have some, if not gloves will be provided. Please know that your tabis (water shoes) or sneakers will get wet and muddy.  Please also bring with you a personal water bottle.  The work project will consist of clearing a 100 foot section of fishpond wall.  Most of the vegetation on the wall is Pickleweed, a non-native coastal ground cover.  There are some larger trees and shrubs like Milo, Pluchea and Christmas Berry that will be cleared.  Volunteers will help to break down those trees and load them into a flatbed dump truck.  There is a nice spot close to the project area prime for fish viewing. Volunteers are encouraged to take a break from the work and check out the fish that inhabit the fishpond. The workday will end at 11:30am.  Volunteers needing to leave early, may simply walk back to their parked vehicles on their own.
