Apache-Sitgreaves Public Lands Day Event!
This event will focus on minor repairs/maintenance of the Murray Basin Trail. Volunteers will use hand tools to dig sections of the trail by re-shaping tread and digging out "berm" sections where water isn't draining properly. We will also clean up garbage around the parking/kiosk area at the trailhead. If the proper materials are obtained before the event, we will also likely replace the Kiosk at the trailhead with a brand-new one.

Event details

This event will primarily consist of using hand-tools such as rogue ho's, mcleods, and pick-mattocks to re-define sections of trail tread that are falling into disrepair. We will be digging into the tread to create/fix sections of back-slope, as well as digging out sediment build-up on the out slope of the trail tread. Several sections will also need to be reshaped to meet standards for sustainable trail, which involves digging small amounts of dirt out at a time, usually from center tread out towards the "critical edge" of the trail, with the end goal being that the trail has a slight angle going towards the down-hill side to ensure water drains properly off of the trail. There will also be a group who stays closer to the Trailhead kiosk, helping out by picking up any trash around the parking area. There is potential for a new Kiosk to be installed as well. Currently, we are obtaining the proper materials to construct this new Kiosk - if everything is squared away by September 27th, the new Kiosk instillation will also be part of the event.
