The Elkhorn Trailhead has lost connection with the rest of the Molly Lake/Lady Moon trail system.
For National Public Lands Day, we will formally conclude our work at Elkhorn Creek by constructing the final connector to the northwest to tie back into the existing trail. The work site is just under 8,000 ft in elevation, and there is plenty of shade. The hike from the parking area to the work site is under a mile.
Volunteers will car camp along FS 509 off of Manhattan Rd near Red Feather Lakes, about 1.5 hours from Fort Collins, and are encouraged to arrive Friday night before the project. FS 509 is a dirt road that is accessible by most vehicles, but RVs and sprinter vans are highly discouraged due to steep water bars and narrow turns. Breakfast will be provided on Saturday and Sunday morning, and dinner will be provided on Saturday night.
