Six Mile Dam Cleanup Event
There are many amazing sites that you can recreate in throughout your public lands and, unfortunately, illegal dumping and litter is a problem in many of these sites. In light of this, we are facilitating a trash cleanup event on the Pecos River on the Friday before National Public Lands Day. Snacks, water, and safety/cleanup supplies will be provided for participants.

On Friday, September 26 from 8:00 AM-11:00 AM, the Bureau of Land Management (Carlsbad Field Office) and City of Carlsbad are hosting a cleanup event at Six Mile Dam. This popular birding and water recreation area often has trash along the bank and in the water. The meeting point will be the gravel parking area next to the large blue dumpster at the coordinates 32.383412, -104.145477. Please be advised that the Google Maps location for Six Mile Dam is on the other side of the river and will not take you to the meeting point.

The National Environmental Education Foundation's theme for NPLD this year is "Our Home Outdoors". This is a reminder that these lands are not just physical spaces—they are where we come together, feel rooted, and develop a sense of place.  We are grateful for your time and energy towards improving our shared home.

The schedule of the event will include time for volunteers to sign the Volunteer Service Agreement, a safety discussion and event overview, and then we will transition into the cleanup!

Wear clothing pieces you are comfortable being active in. Water, snacks, and cleanup/protective supplies will be provided. Bring sun protection, any necessary medications (e.g., epinephrine, inhaler), and a water bottle. Note: If you are under the age of 18 years old, a parent/guardian signature is required. Those under 16 years of age must have a parent/guardian present with them at the event.
