Volunteers will support the BLM-managed Red Cliffs National Conservation Area with a vegetation data recording project. Volunteers will work in small teams and collect height and breadth growth measurements on several species of desert plants, remove protective wire cages, and record species data from identification tags. The project site is less than 5 miles north of St George on Cottonwood Road and has suitable access for all vehicles and volunteers of all ages. Volunteers will be trained in plant identification and how to remove the cages without damaging the plants.

Bring a hat, long sleeves and sunscreen sun protection for 3 hours of field work in the direct sun, a tape measure, clipboard, pen, leather gloves, knee pads for kneeling to read plant labels, reading glasses (if needed), hand pruners and wire snips if you have them.  Cages will be removed, flattened and carried up to 500 yards for reuse.

Bring a refillable water bottle. Water and energy snacks will be provided, as well as a sandwich lunch at the end of the project. You must register by September 25 for a lunch reservation.
