WDFW Habitat Restoration Volunteer Event – South Puget Sound Wildlife Area
Join the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) for a hands-on habitat restoration event at the South Puget Sound Wildlife Area, South Puget Sound Unit, located within the city limits of Lakewood in Pierce County.
What We’ll Be Doing:
Help us improve local wildlife habitat by removing invasive plant species and planting native vegetation. Your efforts will support a healthier ecosystem for a variety of wildlife species.
What to Expect:
Volunteers will be walking and working on uneven terrain and should be prepared for physically strenuous activity. Tasks may include kneeling, crouching, and using hand tools.
Please bring a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, work gloves, water, and snacks. It is suggested that you wear hiking/work boots, long pants and long sleeve shirt, and dress for the weather of the day. We will work in light rain, but heavy rain could potentially cause us to reschedule.
After meeting in the parking lot, we’ll take a short 10-minute walk to the work site. We’ll work until approximately 11:30 a.m., then spend the last hour learning about local wildlife. This will include a bird walk and a tour of the Lakewood Fish Hatchery. Binoculars will be available to borrow, or you’re welcome to bring your own.
