Leidos
Supporting hands-on environmental learning and conservation that strengthens communities.
The National Environmental Education Foundation works with partners like Leidos to support hands-on STEM learning for students, restoration of public lands, and programs that connect people with nature.
Here is the kind of work Leidos helps make possible through its partnership with NEEF.
STEM Learning Through The Environment
Through NEEF’s Greening STEM projects, students explore real environmental challenges through hands-on, outdoor learning. By connecting STEM subjects with the natural world, students gain practical skills while discovering how science applies to their communities.
Projects across the country include pollinator habitat projects, water quality monitoring, and field-based environmental investigations.
Leidos is supporting three upcoming Greening STEM projects in San Diego, San Antonio, and Northern Virginia, bringing hands-on outdoor STEM learning to students in communities across the country.
It was fun seeing (Park scientists) do what I want to do in the future...It was very inspirational.
This short teaser from NEEF’s Greening STEM video series offers a glimpse of the hands-on environmental learning projects the program supports. In this example, students from Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Teaneck, New Jersey work with the Teaneck Creek Conservancy to monitor water quality and study aquatic life in their local watershed.

Restoring Parks and Public Lands
NEEF partnered with Leidos leadership to organize employee service events focused on restoring parks, trails, and beaches. Employees worked alongside local organizations to improve natural spaces used by communities every day.
Impact
- Nearly $10,000 in volunteer service value

Connecting Veterans with Nature
NEEF’s Veterans and Nature program supports projects that bring veterans together through conservation work and outdoor experiences. Activities such as habitat restoration and trail work strengthen wellbeing while improving public lands.
Leidos is supporting the next round of funding for these impactful projects, helping expand opportunities for veterans to connect with nature and community.
It’s been a long time since I felt this kind of bond. Everyone just got it—no need to explain. Being outside gave me space to breathe—I hadn’t realized how much I missed that.
