The Oregon Council of Rock and Mineral Clubs (OCRMC) and all associated member clubs will continue remediation work efforts at the Hampton Butte Rockhound Site again in 2026. The site is famous for green petrified wood and has been extensively dug for many years. In an effort to demonstrate best rockhounding practices, OCRMC is sponsoring a work party for all member clubs at Hampton Butte in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management Prineville District. This date coincides with National Public Lands Day, and this project is the Council's effort to promote good stewardship at rockhound collection sites. We will be filling and leveling disturbed areas using shovels and rakes. Fortunately the ground is soft and most of the holes are less than 24" deep. Volunteers will bring lunch, water, field gear (hats, gloves, boots), and be prepared for the variety of fall weather.
