Join us at Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge for a special National Public Lands Day observation—an opportunity to explore the coastal prairie, learn about native wildlife, and connect with your public lands. This year’s event features a mix of guided experiences designed to accommodate all interest levels and abilities.
Start your morning with a guided walking bird tour along the Auto Tour Loop, where participants will search for grassland birds and other prairie wildlife. At the same time, guided van tours will depart from the Visitor Center, offering an accessible, vehicle‑based exploration of the refuge’s diverse habitats and wide‑open landscapes. Visitors are also invited to participate in a refuge‑wide BioBlitz, helping document the biodiversity of the prairie. Later in the morning, enjoy guided plant walks that highlight the native species that shape the Attwater's prairie-chickens' coastal prairie habitat.
This event is part of our kickoff for National Wildlife Refuge Week and provides a chance to learn how the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service protects wildlife and habitats on America’s public lands. All activities are family‑friendly, free to attend, and a great way to deepen your appreciation of the refuge.
