Celebrate National Public Lands Day by volunteering at the Dark Canyon Trailhead of the La Cueva Ridge Trail. Participants will help improve the trailhead and surrounding area by better defining the trail, collecting litter, and painting the pipe fence around the parking area.
Trail work may include clearing loose rocks and other minor obstructions from the trail tread, trimming encroaching vegetation where appropriate, and using hand tools to make the path easier for visitors to recognize and follow. Volunteers may also help discourage the use of informal paths by placing natural materials along unintended routes and reinforcing the established trail corridor.
Volunteers should come prepared to work outdoors and wear sturdy shoes, long pants, sun protection, and work gloves. Tools, supplies, and project instructions will be provided at the event.
