Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge is excited to announce our National Public Lands Day Clean-Up event for 2026! Join us on September 26, 2026 from 8:30-12:00 p.m. for the nation's largest single-day volunteer event! We will be joining the nationwide effort by cleaning up our trails for the continued enjoyment of all those that visit Okefenokee NWR. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the entrance to Swamp Island Drive followed by a safety brief and equipment distribution at 9 a.m. where we will then break into groups for clean-up. We will be focusing on the clean-up and maintenance of our hiking trails. The event will conclude no later than 12:00 p.m. Gloves, trash bags, and buckets will be provided. We encourage volunteers to bring garbage grabbers/pickers if they have them and would like to use them for the event.
