National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands, bringing people together across the country to care for parks, trails, and recreation areas. This year, the Greenway Trust is hosting six volunteer stewardship projects near North Bend, Washington, where volunteers will help care for some of the region’s most beloved outdoor spaces.

Trail work takes many forms! Caring for trails is about more than the surface beneath our feet — it’s about maintaining sustainable recreation areas where people can enjoy the outdoors while protecting the forests, rivers, and wildlife that make these places special. Projects may include trail maintenance, trailhead and picnic area improvements, litter cleanup, brushing overgrown vegetation, removing non-native weeds, and other forms of habitat restoration. Every task plays a role in keeping public lands healthy and accessible for people while supporting the plants, animals, and habitats that call these landscapes home.
