Description:
Come on by Saturday, September 19th from 9 am – noon to the Keweenaw National Historical Park Headquarters at 25970 Red Jacket Rd. Calumet, MI 49913, for the Calumet Industrial Core Volunteer Workday.
The Industrial Core, located within Keweenaw National Historical Park boundaries and adjacent to the village of Calumet, is a key visitor attraction. Throughout the summer months, visitors routinely tour the area with the aid of established interpretive wayside exhibits and a self-guided brochure. This is also the location for ranger-guided programs. When arriving, park at the Keweenaw NHP Headquarters and proceed inside. Please bring plenty of water in a reusable water bottle. Sunscreen and a hat are always recommended. Tools, gloves, and appropriate PPE are provided.
Maintaining a clean and well-preserved cultural landscape is an on-going task that requires continual monitoring and upkeep. Volunteers will work side-by-side with site and park staff to help with clearing the overgrowth on historic buildings and picking up modern litter.
Duties:
Use hand tools to cut and clear vegetation and plant growth around buildings, rail tracks, and other historic landscapes.
Pick-up modern-day trash for disposal.
Minimum Time Requirement: 1-3 Hours
Minimum Age: 16 years
