Celebrate National Public Lands Day and National Hunting and Fishing Day at Kankakee Fish & Wildlife Area on Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Central Time (CT)! Volunteer alongside DNR staff and waterfowl enthusiasts for our annual brushing of the blinds volunteer workday.
Volunteers will meet staff at the Kankakee FWA office at 9 a.m. CT and caravan to the blinds dressing site, approximately one mile away. After orientation, volunteers will work in groups to help improve waterfowl hunting and viewing opportunities by using corn stalks and oak cuttings to camouflage the waterfowl hunting blinds. Volunteers are welcome to stay for part of, or the entire workday. All ages are welcome and encouraged to participate, and youth must be supervised by adults.
Volunteers will be working outdoors and using hand tools and power tools. Please bring along work gloves and wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. We recommend bringing water and snacks. Restrooms and water refills are available in the office headquarters.
