Fire & Fuel Mitigation: Community Volunteering Day
Want to help Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge in preparing for our fall prescribed fires? Join us on National Public Lands Day to build piles of invasives and fallen debris that will be tackled by our fighters in October. We will also be joined by one of our wildland firefighters to discuss the importance of prescribed burns and career opportunities in the field.

Event details

Volunteers will gather at the Visitor Center and then head out to the designated project site to build burn piles for our later October prescribed burns. If arriving after 9 am, call the Visitor Center at (303) 289-0232 to confirm project location. All volunteers must sign a Volunteer Service Agreement before starting the project.

Materials to bring are closed-toed shoes, long pants, gloves if you have your own, protection against the sun, and light jacket. 20 pair of loaner gloves will be available on a first come basis. 

Children under 18 MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian. This activity is recommended for 12 years and older.

DUTIES
Use hands and tools to gather debris
Place removed material in designated area
Prioritize safety during every step
Stay within project site and respect wildlife

QUALIFICATIONS
Desire to participate in public land stewardship
