The public will assist the BLM with the continued improvement of riparian habitat along the 2.5 Mile Creek, northeast of Pocatello, ID. In 2024, the BLM initiated riparian restoration along the 2.5 Mile Creek by installing several rock structures within the stream channel. The 2025 Public Lands Day Event will continue this work by repairing existing structures and building new structures. These rock structures are intended to stop the progression of headcuts upstream and increase access to the floodplain during spring runoff while allowing for continued streamflow through the system. Participants should be prepared to get wet, and a bit muddy, as they work within the stream channel to strategically place rocks to construct several types of structures. No prior experience required as BLM personnel will be on site to assist and instruct volunteers, though more information about the type of structures that are routinely built and the science behind them can be found at: Riverscapes Restoration Design Manual  https://lowtechpbr.restoration.usu.edu/resources/recipes/Rock/erosionControl.html. Participants should plan on meeting at the BLM Pocatello Field Office, 4350 Cliffs Drive, Pocatello, ID 83204 at 9:00 to complete paperwork before travelling to the field site.
