Event details

The BLM is working to remove the invasive plant species Bigleaf periwinkle (Vinca major) from Aravaipa Canyon.

Bigleaf periwinkle spreads rapidly, forming dense mats that crowd out native vegetation. It thrives in shaded, warm canyon environments typical of the Southwest. If left unmanaged, it can disrupt natural water flow and reduce native plant diversity.

Treatment would involve manual removal using hand tools only.

Removing this invasive species will support the recovery of native and naturalized plants, improving biodiversity and overall ecosystem health.
