National Public Lands Day
Volunteers who are interested in the development and monitoring of their public lands are invited to attend the National Public Lands Day hosted by the Surprise Valley/Applegate Field office of the BLM in conjunction with the National Environmental Education Foundation and sponsored by the Alturas rotary club. Participants will assist BLM employees to install disk golf baskets in the up-and-coming public frisbee golf course at Barne’s Grade in Alturas. In addition, volunteers can assist in the removal of trash and abandoned derelict appliances, auto parts, and invasive flora removal from the landscape.

Event details

Volunteers interested in the disk golf course or the cleaning of Barne's Grade will assemble at Barne's Grade OHV trailhead. Volunteers should bring water, long pants and shirts should be worn as well as sunscreen. Gloves, safety goggles, and trash bags will be provided. Participants will be divided into teams with each team being led by a BLM employee. Teams will focus on disk golf basket instillation, trash removal, or weed control. At 1300 the groups will return to the OHV turnoff for the conclusion of the event. Any appliances will be driven to the recycle facility in Alturas by the BLM personnel. At 1300 the event will conclude.
