Recently our monument instituted new supplemental rules that requires fire pans to be used in dispersed camping areas and back country camp sites. With this project, we will be kicking off the removal of existing, visitor built fire rings on the landscape and rehabbing burn scars at a popular dispersed camping area known as Big Point.
We will be meeting at the Sand Canyon parking area at 9am. Following a brief introduction, background on project and safety, volunteers will caravan approximately 3 miles to the project site. Volunteers will be asked to drive their personal vehicles and car pool to the Big Point. AWD vehicles and high clearance 4x4's are recommended.
Tools, snacks, and refreshments will be provided. Volunteers should bring their own PPE: gloves, glasses, sturdy boots.
A short interpretive talk regarding cultural sites will be conducted by monument staff.
