Cottonwood Springs Dispersed Camping Area Improvement
In celebration of the recently designated Chuckwalla National Monument, BLM's Palm Springs South Coast Field Office will host a National Public Lands Day event at Cottonwood Springs. Our goal is to not only educate our volunteers of the significance of the Chuckwalla National Monument but also to improve upon the recreational opportunities there. Additionally, Cottonwood Springs serves as the WWII historical site Camp Young, so we will provide an overview of this history as part of our clean up efforts.

Please join the Bureau of Land Management's Palm Springs - South Coast Office at Cottonwood Springs dispersed camping area for a 2026 National Public Lands Day event in celebration of the recently designated Chuckwalla National Monument. The event will focus on cleaning up an important dispersed camping area that serves as a popular staging area for the Meccacopia Special Recreation Management Area and Joshua Tree National Park. Meeting time is 8am and on the West side of Cottonwood Springs Rd

Our priority will be to improve upon the dispersed camping area by cleaning litter, improving recreational signage and educating volunteers. With Veterans Day the following week, our Archaeologist will advise on any found material and its relationship to the WWII historical site, Camp Young. Event will end by 1pm weather permitting and dependent on length of activities. We are proud to partner with Active Communities of Desert Center, Cactus to Cloud Institute and the Chuckwalla National Monument Intertribal Commission.
