Mountain bluebirds are one of the most beautiful birds that live at Curt Gowdy State Park, and we are lucky enough that they not only migrate through, but choose to nest at the park every year! To help them find homes, we have many bird boxes set up throughout the park, but those boxes need to be cleaned every year. Volunteers will join park staff and Audubon Society volunteers to find and clean out bird boxes throughout the park. Gloves, bags, and tools will be provided. Participants should expect a day of moderate driving and hiking, finding boxes and cleaning them of nests, sticks, and other debris. Please bring water, sunscreen, good walking shoes, snacks (if you want them), and appropriate layers for late September at high elevation.
