Douthat State Park
Step into the quiet, mysterious woods of Douthat State Park after dark for an unforgettable experience. The owl, with its silent flight and haunting call, is one of nature 's most fascinating creatures. But which owls call these woods their home? Join a park ranger for an interpretive hike as we explore the nocturnal world of owls. You 'll learn how these remarkable birds play a vital role in maintaining the health of the environment, from controlling rodent populations to helping balance ecosystems. During the hike, we'll try calling out to the owls, and with a little luck, we might even hear their calls echoing through the trees. While a sighting is a rare treat, you might be able to hear their distinctive hoots or calls in the distance. Please note that this hike is on uneven terrain, and we will be navigating the woods at night, which brings certain risks. The trail could be up to a mile long, so make sure you 're prepared for the challenge. Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, bring a flashlight, and sign up in advance at the Park Office to reserve your spot.
