Day-of-event required BLM registration location is at the Fishtrap Loop Trail's South Loop Trailhead Parking Lot at the BLM Fishtrap Area. For those who arrive who did not pre-register with Washington Trails Association (WTA), they will offer onsite registration. Volunteers need to register with both BLM and WTA to participate, and WTA requests that volunteers meet their requirement to participate the entire scheduled workday.

Once available, a link will be provided to WTA's website pre-event registration webpage.

The day's work includes helping to maintain and improve flexible fiberglass post trail markers (and their locations) along the Fishtrap Loop Trail, focusing especially on the North Loop. We will ensure trail markers' strategic locations, solid placement, and add any needed decals.  In some locations, rocks will be gathered and stacked to support trail markers where the ground is too rocky to pound them into the ground. Depending on the number of attendees, volunteers might be split into two or more groups, each led by an official crew supervisor.

  • 8:30 – 9:00 am (South Loop Trailhead Parking Lot): Arrival and Onsite Registration.
  • 8:45 - 9:00 am: Safety Briefing and then caravan/hike to worksite locations.
  • 9:30 am – noon: Work on projects.
  • Noon - 12:30 pm: Lunch break (please bring a sack lunch).
  • 12:30 - 2:30 pm: Continue working on projects.
  • 2:30 - 3:30 pm: Transition back to trailhead for light refreshments and giveaways.

Volunteers should wear leather boots, bring leather work gloves, filled water bottle, clothing for weather and sun-protection, and snacks for during the workday. BLM will have extra gloves, and bottled water on hand.  At the end of the day during light refreshments, a free one-day pass/coupon for visiting federal public lands will be available to volunteers.

Driving Directions to Fishtrap Area's South Loop Trailhead Parking Lot: From Spokane, WA follow Interstate 90 west for 26 miles.  Take the Fishtrap Exit (Exit 254), turn left on to the Old State Hwy (Sprague Hwy East), and travel south for 3.8 miles.
