What's that swimming in the water? What's that rustling in the leaves? Come practice your plant and wildlife identification skills and learn about the importance of community science at our beginning of fall BioBlitz!

What's a BioBlitz?

A BioBlitz is a communal science effort to record as many species as possible within a designated location and time period.

How does it work?

For our BioBlitz project, we will be using the iNaturalist app to record our observations. If you haven't used the app before, and/or want to learn more about Community Science, start your adventure at our information table. If you're already familiar with the app, come in anytime throughout the day to collect your observations along the designated area. Maps of the designated area will be available at the Front Office and the Visitor Center. You may also record your volunteer hours at both locations.

Schedule for the Day:

  • 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Drop-in: BioBlitz

Drop in anytime during park hours on the designated trail

  • 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Information Table

Outside the Thomas C. Savage Visitor Center

In the event of weather, the table will be relocated inside the visitor center.

Participants are advised to bring sunscreen, bug repellent, water, a small ruler (if available), a camera, and/ or phone. Cameras can help to better capture bird and insect species!
