Come celebrate National Public Lands Day 2026 at Gettysburg National Military Park!
This year we will be working on the north side of Devil's Den towards Houck's Ridge. Here on July 2nd 1863, Union General J.H Hobart Ward's brigade endured heavy artillery before General John B. Hoods division began its assault. Eventually, Ward's line collapsed, forcing his troops to retreat leaving the area in Confederate hands.
During the course of this project we will be removing brush and invasive species from the area to maintain an open landscape and protect grassland biodiversity. Volunteers should expect to work in rocky uneven terrain and should be aware that they might encounter harmful insects like ticks or stinging insects.
Work will occur between 8 am and noon, rain or shine. All tools and safety supplies will be provided, but volunteers are expected to come dress prepared. We ask that all volunteers come in long pants, long sleeve shirts and closed toed shoes. Water will be provided but volunteers will need to bring their own water bottle.
