Our Park
Golden Spike National Historical Park commemorates one of the most transformative events in America's history, the completion of the nation's first Transcontinental Railroad. Its location at Promontory Summit features the spot where the last spike was driven on May 10, 1869. At nearly 5000 feet in elevation, Golden Spike is located within a summit valley of the Promontory Range. The arid landscape is a sagebrush steppe, featuring grassland covered mountains punctuated with sagebrush and juniper.
