The National Park Service and Mississippi Park Connection are excited to host 75 volunteers for a prairie plug planting at Mni Owe Sni/ Coldwater on September 27th from 9 am - 12 pm.

Volunteers will be split up into two groups. For the first group, volunteers will collect native plant seeds, they will be introduced to what species to collect from, how to identify species, and will also bag and label the species. For the second group, volunteers will be introduced to buckthorn and learn why it is harmful to the river, how to identify it, and how to effectively remove it from the site.

We will provide gloves, tools, and all the necessary equipment for planting. At the worksite, there will be uneven terrain, tripping hazards, and/or irritating plants and insects to avoid. Please come dressed appropriately, wearing long pants and closed-toe shoes. Grey Cloud Dunes SNA also does not have any running water or bathroom facilities, so please plan accordingly.

If you're interested in attending, please use this link to register, as space is limited to 40 volunteers.
