Volunteers will remove invasive bush honeysuckle by cutting with hand saws and hand-pulling smaller plants. Gloves, loppers and hand saws will be provided. Event hosts will apply herbicide to cut stumps to prevent re-growth. We will provide booklets that help identify invasive honeysuckles, in comparison to the native species. There will be a small-scale trash cleanup as well, primarily in the areas where we will be cutting.
Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather. Closed-toed shoes or boots are required and long sleeves/pants highly recommended. Please bring a water bottle and snacks for yourselves. We will provide a water jug for refills, bug spray and sunscreen, as well as a small handwashing station.
We will be carpooling to this site, as there is limited parking along the road by the unit. Meeting spot TBD, updates will be sent as soon as available.
RSVP to Andrew Dreas (andrew_dreas@fws.gov 660-537-6842) if interested.
We hope you can join us for this chance to help improve our public lands and conservation areas!
