Washington Square is one of five squares founded in 1682 by William Penn, in Philadelphia. Volunteers will assist in beautifying this park by creating expanded tree bed rings and filling them with mulch.

National Parks of Philadelphia are proud to participate in National Public Lands Day 2025 with a project designed to enhance the health and beauty of trees within Washington Square Park. Volunteers will work alongside NPS staff to dig to create expanded tree rings and fill them with mulch. 

Those interested in volunteering will use the link to the event in Volunteer.gov to register and sign the necessary paperwork. Instructions for the day will be sent to all those who register. Participants will receive a "fee-free" coupon to be used at any NPS park which has an entrance fee, courtesy of NEEF! Plus a small token of recognition from Independence National Historical Park.
