Event details

Kids of all ages (age 2 to 102) are invited to visit our closest Special Recreation Management Area, Cedar Mountain, just north of Craig, CO.  We will clean up the picnic and parking area, do a little trail and facility maintenance, and have time for further exploration.  We may trim back bushes, cut grass, clean the bathroom and fire grills, pick up trash, improve a hiking trail, wash a kiosk, stain a bench, remove noxious weeds, etc.  This is an opportunity to fulfill FFA/SWAP community service hours for our high school participants.  A display and education on "Leave No Trace" is the theme for the day.  A BBQ lunch will be provided at noon.  Little Snake Field Office staff members will be on hand to share their  experiences and educate on career opportunities  and on how their jobs support and manage public lands.     Finally, we can enjoy the area by going on a short hike, watch for birds and wildlife, count various plant, insect and animal species, learn about the area geology, history, environment, and just enjoy being in the space with other community members.  Two days of service, fun and learning.  Friday/Saturday, 25-26 Sep. 2026, 9 am - 1:00 pm, with lunch at noon.
