Location
Marion Creek Campground, Milepost 180 Dalton Highway. It is approximately 5 miles north of Coldfoot. Signs will direct you to a meeting location in the campground. Plan for at least a 6-hour drive from Fairbanks on a bumpy road. Free camping at Marion Creek Campground will be offered for National Public Land Day volunteers.
Work
Volunteers will meet event leaders at the Marion Creek Campground at 10:00 am for an introduction to discuss the work and distribute any necessary gear for the day. Participants will then divide into work groups of choice, led and instructed by event staff. Boardwalk work will consist of transporting staging boardwalk materials, some digging with shovels and pulaskis, and the use of cordless impact drivers. Brush clearing in the campground will consist of using loppers and power brushers to clear vegetation and carrying the brush to trucks by hand or wheelbarrow.
Volunteers should come prepared for any kind of weather, with warm clothing, hats, rain gear, sturdy boots, a daypack and work gloves. Volunteers should also bring water.
Lunch and snacks will be provided to volunteers by BLM.
