Join Indiana DNR staff on National Public Lands Day, Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT, for a volunteer trail building opportunity at Moraine Nature Preserve. Volunteers will assist DNR staff with rerouting a portion of a 3-mile trail to create better experiences for property visitors. Volunteers meet in a 10-vehicle gravel parking located at 41.542061, -87.017680 and will then receive instruction to assist with clearing the path for the trail reroutes and shape the trail bed for future use. Volunteers can also learn about best practices for creating hiking trails. All levels of experience are welcome. This opportunity requires physical effort in forested habitats on slopes and uneven terrain. Hand tools such as loppers, shovels, and hoes are provided. Volunteers should wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts, sturdy boots or shoes, and bring work gloves. Moraine Nature Preserve does not have restroom facilities, and volunteers should bring drinking water and a lunch. Please register to attend this event at https://cerv.is/0064x3598.
