Powhatan State Park
Experience paddling on one of Virginia's most beautiful and historic waterways: the James River. Your guide will provide an overview of safety and paddling techniques, flora and fauna of the river ecosystem, as well as interpretation of historical features dating back to the 1800's. Conditions permitting, the tour will cover five miles of tranquil river, starting at https://maps.app.goo.gl/pSf1dKQvkzTpc4tu5, Launch A and ending at https://maps.app.goo.gl/Z2S36wqBJtM9N5PA9, Maidens Landing. Due to the steep banks and fluctuating water levels, it is physically challenging for some participants to get in and out of the boats, especially for those with limited mobility or balance issues. Stepping into the water and/or mud is often required. Please wear quick-drying clothes, closed-toed water shoes, and bring plenty of water (at least 32oz recommended) and sun protection. If you'd like to use your own kayak, just let us know upon registration. Advance registration includes payment of the $20 per participant fee. To register, visit or call the Park Office at (804) 598-7148 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily. Registration closes 24 hours before the event. Space is limited to six participants. Children must be at least 12 years old and accompanied by an adult. In the event of cancellation due to inclement weather, full refunds will be issued.
